Something Old...
On her wedding day, the
bride should wear the
following:
Something Old, which
means she values her
family's history and the
old values. Something
New, meaning hope for
the future. Something
Borrowed, symbolising
the hope of future
happiness - this should
be borrowed from a
happily married woman.
Something Blue,
symbolising the brides'
purity as she enters
holy matrimony. And a
Sixpence in her shoe,
which will provide the
couple with financial
stability. |

BRUDEPIGER
Bridesmaids
originate
from the
Roman
law that
demanded
ten
witnesses
be
present
at a
wedding
in order
to dupe
evil
spirits
who were
believed
to
attend
marriages
with the
view to
causing
mischief
and
disharmony.
The
bridesmaids
were all
dressed
in
identical
clothing
to the
bride,
so that
the evil
spirits
wouldn't
know who
was
getting
married.

THE BEST MAN
In medieval Germany, the groom
cap-tured his bride-to-be from a
neighboring village. The future
groom, accompanied by a male
companion, seized the young girl
from her home. The best man
stems from this two-man,
strong-armed tactic for such an
important task, only the best
man would do.
The
best man carried more than a
ring. Since there remained the
real threat of the bride’s
family attemp-ting to forcibly
gain her return, the best man
stayed by the groom’s side
throughout the marriage ceremony,
alert and armed, in case the
bride’s family would try to get
her back during the ceremony.
